What is TimeGuessr?
GeoGuessr with a second axis. You are shown a historical photograph and have to say both where it was taken and what year it was taken in.
How to play
- Pick your game from the home page: the daily challenge, a random game, or one built by the community.
- Study the photo. Architecture, clothing, vehicles and signage all date it.
- Answer both halves: where the photo was taken, and when.
Why play TimeGuessr?
The two questions are the whole point, and they work together: the clues that tell you when are usually different from the clues that tell you where, so one photo makes you read the same image twice with different eyes. It rewards a genuinely unusual mix of visual history and geography. Beyond the daily there is a random game and a shelf of community-made sets, so it does not run out.
Reading the feedback
The official daily result page presents a total scored out of 50,000, a five-round breakdown, a leaderboard entry point and sharing in either an emoji grid or a detailed format. It also offers replay through Play Again or New Game after the result screen.

Tips & strategy
- Date the photo before you commit to a place. The film stock, grain and colour process bracket the decade, and the decade tells you what the place should look like.
- Cars and road signs are the best clues in the frame. Both change often and both are regional.
