LinkedIn Pinpoint #881, Mon, Sep 28: today's hints first, then the answer.
By: Julien A. | Last update: Sep 28, 2026
Spoiler ahead. This page covers the Mon, Sep 28 Pinpoint. The hints come first; every clue and the answer sit behind a control you open yourself.
LinkedIn Pinpoint hides a category behind five clue words and turns one card for every wrong guess. The hints below help with Pinpoint today without naming the category; the five clues and the answer come after. New to it? Our LinkedIn Pinpoint game page covers where to play, the modes and our tips.
Pinpoint reveals up to five words, one at a time, and asks for the category that links them. The first word could belong to dozens of categories; each new one narrows the field, and your score counts how few words you needed.
Name the category as precisely as you can, although a close answer is often accepted. Before you guess, test the idea against every word on screen, because a category that fits three words out of four is exactly the trap the next clue is built to spring.

How to Play LinkedIn Pinpoint
How a round runs, what a category looks like, and how to name it with fewer clues.
How a Round Works
The game shows one clue word and asks what links it to four others you cannot see yet. Type a category. A wrong guess turns the next clue, until all five are out.
Your result is the number of clues you needed. Naming it on the first clue is rare; two or three is a good day.
- 1BaconWrong guess:Breakfast foods
- 2LockeWrong guess:Lost characters
- 3ConfuciusRight guess:English philosophers
- 4Plato and Socrates
- 5Descartes, "I think, therefore I am"
Three Guesses on That Round
- Bacon → Breakfast foodsWrong. The first clue is picked to mislead, and Bacon is also Francis Bacon.
- Locke → Lost charactersWrong. John Locke is a Lost character too, but the next clues had to fit as well.
- Confucius → English philosophersAccepted as Famous philosophers on the third clue. Confucius was not English, yet the game took the close guess.
Kinds of Categories
A category is rarely a dictionary definition. Most days it falls into one of these shapes, and spotting the shape early saves a clue.
Members of a set
Mercury, Mars, Earth…
Planets
The plainest shape: every clue belongs to one list. The trap is a clue that sits in two lists at once.
Words around a missing word
Truck, Drill, Alarm…
Fire ___
Each clue makes a phrase with the same hidden word. Try it before and after.
Things that share a feature
Piano, Map, Lock…
Things with keys
The clues look unrelated until you find the one thing each of them has.
Four Habits That Pinpoint It Sooner
- Read the first clue several ways. The first clue is chosen to mislead. List two or three things it could belong to before you commit.
- Test the guess against every card. Before you type, check that your category fits every clue on the table, not only the newest one.
- Look for the missing word. Say each clue with a word before or after it. When the same word fits them all, the category is a blank.
- Keep the guess plain. Type the category the way you would say it out loud. A short, plain name lands more often than a clever one.
