Pips Answers Today (Sep 28): Easy, Medium and Hard
The three boards of Mon, Sep 28, region by region.
By: Julien A. | Last update: Sep 28, 2026
Spoiler ahead. This page covers the Mon, Sep 28 Pips, all three boards. The rules stay in the open; every domino sits behind a control you open yourself.
Today's Pips comes in three boards, easy, medium and hard, 26 dominoes in all. The rule on each region is your Pips hint, and the Pips answers, the dominoes that satisfy it, stay hidden until you open them. New to it? Our Pips game page covers where to play, the modes and our tips.
Pips asks you to lay a set of dominoes on a board of colored regions, each with its own rule: a sum to hit, pips that must all match, pips that must all differ, or a total that has to stay above or below a number. Easy falls quickly. Hard usually turns on a single placement that every other tile depends on.
Start with the regions that leave no choice, such as a lone cell with a fixed value or an equal region only one domino can fill. Every tile you lock in narrows the options for its neighbors, so settle the tight corners before you touch the open middle.
Still solving Pips today? Read the rule of the region you are stuck on, then open that region alone. Nothing else on the page moves.

How a Board Works
Each board is a small grid split into colored regions, with a tray of dominoes underneath. Every domino has to go on the board, each one covering two squares side by side, and once they are all down every region has to obey the symbol printed on it.
The board beside this is a real one, the easy board of 22 September 2026, and it works like the ones above: tap a square or a domino and it turns over.
What the Symbols Mean
A region's rule sits on its corner. There are six of them, drawn here with the same badges as the board above. The easy board above uses five of them: a number, equal, less than, greater than and no color.
- The equals sign.Every domino half in the region shows the same number.
- The not-equals sign.No two halves in the region show the same number.
- A number on its own.The halves inside the region add up to that number, and a domino counts only for the halves that land in it.
- Greater than. The pips in the region add up to more than the number.
- Less than. The pips in the region add up to less than the number.
- No color.A square with no color takes any half, which makes it the easiest route for an awkward domino.
Three Moves on That Board
Greater than 5. Forced. Only a 6 fits that square, and only 5|6 carries one. Its 5 drops into the greater-than-4 square beside it.
The equal region. Three squares, one number: 5. 5|5 fills two of them and 5|3 lends its 5 to the third; its 3 lands on the free square above.
The 1 across three squares. 0|0 covers two of them and the 1 of 2|1 finishes the sum. The 2 lands in the less-than-3 square.
Four Habits That Shorten a Solve
- Start where there is no choice.A one-square region, a sum only one pair reaches, a greater-than-4 region only a 5 or a 6 fills.
- Build out from what is placed. A settled domino fixes the squares next to it, and the regions around it narrow fast.
- Count the copies. An equal region needs several halves of one number, so check the tray holds enough of them. A not-equal region never takes the same number twice.
- Save the free squares. Squares with no color take any half, so keep them for the domino that fits nowhere else.
Easy, Medium and Hard
- Easy. A handful of dominoes, plain sums, and a free square or two for the awkward one.
- Medium. More dominoes and mixed rules, where one wrong placement shows up two regions later.
- Hard. Every domino in the tray, rules that interlock, and usually a single way to finish.
When a Board Is Solved
- Every domino from the tray is on the board.
- Every square is covered.
- Every region obeys its rule.
There is no timer and no penalty for taking a domino back, so a wrong guess costs one move and nothing more.
