Boardle

A daily chess puzzle that the site itself presents as a Wordle for chess, except the letters are moves. You must guess the best sequence, for both sides, in algebraic notation. The positions come from lichess, and four sizes coexist at the top of the page: Mini, Boardle, Mega and Maxi. The standard grid on August 25 aligned five moves per row across five answer rows.

1. Choose your size in the bar above the board: Mini, Boardle, Mega, or Maxi.
2. Compose the sequence on the chessboard. Entered moves fill the tiles in algebraic notation, for both sides alternately.
3. Correct with « ↻ undo » as long as the line is not complete.
4. Fill the entire line, then press « submit »: only at that point do the tiles color.

A tactical puzzle where you don't play the move, you name it, and where the correction applies to an entire sequence at once. This changes the exercise: finding the idea is not enough, you must also give it the correct order and the correct notation, including the opponent's response.

The usual color code, applied to whole moves: a move correct and in its place, a move present in the solution but in another position, a move absent. The subtlety that costs games lies in the notation, since the help warns that a move only counts if its writing is exact: check, capture and mate are part of the compared text.

• The solution is played for both sides: you must also foresee the best opposing defense, not just your own moves.
• Notation must be exact, # and x included. A mate written as a simple check is treated as a different move.
• A move returned as « present but misplaced » is the most useful information on the grid: the move is correct, it is the order of the sequence that remains to be found.
• The instruction panel links to a notation tutorial: open it before the first game if reading a written sequence of moves is not second nature.
