Riddle of the Day

Riddle of the Day gives you one word problem a day and grades what you type, not what you pick from a list. The riddleoftheday.org address lands on the English side of acertijodeldia.com, with an ES and EN switch at the top of the page, so this is the English face of a Spanish daily. Each puzzle comes with a title, the day's date spelled out, and a difficulty stamp out of five. Underneath sit one text field, one Check button, and three separate ways to climb down: a Hint, a tutor you can ask, and the Solution.

1. Read the day's problem. It is short prose with a title, stamped with a level out of five.
2. Type your answer into the single field. It is open text, so you have to produce the answer rather than recognise it.
3. Press Check.
4. If you are stuck, the page offers three separate helps under the field: Hint, Ask the tutor, and Solution.

This is the old newspaper brainteaser given a proper daily home: one problem, posed in a paragraph, with a difficulty rating attached so you can decide how much of your morning to spend. What lifts it above a riddle list is the ladder of help. A Hint, a tutor and a full solution are three different admissions of defeat, and having all three on the page means you can push further before you take the one that ends the puzzle.

Submitting an answer replaces the field with a result card. A correct answer shows a green “Correct answer” state, the heading “Correct,” a short reason (“your answer captures the key idea of the solution”), and a “See full explanation” control. The solved screen also displays an active day streak, a solved count, five rating choices, a spoiler-free challenge option, and a route to a recent puzzle.

• The level stamp sits above the text, so you know before you read a word whether the day is meant to be gentle. It is the only difficulty signal on the page.
• Because the field takes free text, decide what shape your answer should take before you type it: the problem is posed as a question with a single definite answer, and the Check button is judging the string you hand it.
