Tango

Tango is the daily grid logic puzzle in LinkedIn’s Games hub, where the one-line brief is to harmonize the grid. Every cell takes either a sun or a moon emoji, a few cells arrive pre-filled, and the rest have to be deduced. Three rules do all the work: each row and each column must hold the same number of suns as moons, no more than two identical emojis may sit in a row, horizontally or vertically, and the small signs printed between neighboring cells bind them, an equals sign meaning the two cells match and a cross meaning they differ. That last layer is what separates Tango from a plain balance puzzle: the constraint signs let a deduction jump across the board instead of creeping along one line. LinkedIn ships one new board every day at midnight Pacific Time, free, alongside Queens, Zip, Pinpoint, Crossclimb, Mini Sudoku, Patches and Wend.

1. Open the Tango board in LinkedIn’s Games hub and click or tap Start game.
2. Read the pre-filled cells and the = and x signs printed between neighboring cells before placing anything.
3. Fill each empty cell with a sun or a moon so that each row and each column ends up with the same number of both.
4. Never let three identical emojis sit in a row, horizontally or vertically.
5. Use Undo to remove your last placement, Clear to empty the whole grid, and Hint to highlight a cell where an emoji must go.
6. Finish the grid to open the results card, then share the score or check your streak.

Take it if you want pure deduction with no vocabulary, no trivia and no guessing: the pre-filled cells and the constraint signs are there to be reasoned from, not guessed at, and one grid is a few minutes of work. Skip it if you want the puzzle to fight back, because the Hint button, the Undo button and the Auto-check setting will hand you the answer long before you are stuck for good. Skip it too if you refuse a LinkedIn account and still care about streaks, since a guest keeps a score for thirty minutes and nothing else.

Tango does not grade guesses one at a time; it checks the whole grid against its rules. Turn on Auto-check in the Settings menu and any row, column or pair that breaks a rule is highlighted as soon as you create it. Hint either highlights a cell where an emoji must go or points out placements that are wrong. Undo takes back the last placement and Clear empties the board, so a mistake costs moves rather than a life. When the grid is solved, the results card reports how long you took and your first five correct placements, and it can add no mistakes, no hints, or both.

Daily puzzle

One Tango board per day, released at midnight Pacific Time. The previous board expires at that moment and can no longer be played.

• Start from a pair of identical emojis already sitting side by side: the cell at each end of that pair must take the other emoji, since three in a row is illegal.
• Read the = and x signs as free placements: a cross beside a filled cell settles its neighbor at once, and a chain of equals signs carries one known emoji all the way down the chain.
• Count as you go: as soon as one emoji reaches half of a row or column, every remaining cell in that line takes the other one.
• Watch for a one-cell gap between two identical emojis, because the cell between them has to be the other emoji or you would build three in a row.
• Turn on Auto-check in the Settings menu while you are still learning the constraint signs; it highlights rule violations as you place.
• Leave Hint alone if you want your shared score to carry the no hints label.
