Plot-Hole

Plot-Hole summarizes a film in five synopsis sentences and serves them to you one by one, from the vaguest to the most explicit. Numbering runs in reverse: you start at clue 5 and descend to 1, and the number at which you find it is exactly your score for the day. The top bar displays that score live, with a note commenting on the tier you're on, and each clue carries a narrative label, like exposition then conflict, that locates you in the film's arc. Under the current clue, a line shows the share of today's players who had already found it at that stage. The help panel fixes the rest: a new puzzle every day at midnight Eastern Time, streaks with freezes for absences, and an all-time leaderboard.

1. Read clue 5, the vaguest in the series, the one worth the maximum points.
2. Type a title into the "Know it yet?" field and submit with GUESS.
3. Take the fallout of a mistake: the failed guess is recorded struck through in red next to the clue where you burned it, and the counter drops one notch.
4. Use SKIP (−1 PT) when you prefer to buy the next clue rather than try a title.
5. Look at the line under the clue, which gives the share of today's players who found it at that tier, to gauge whether you're behind or ahead.

The scoring system is the core idea: your score isn't a count of attempts but the moment you dared. Holding out to clue 5 yields the maximum, and descending is trading points for comfort, which makes each round genuinely tense. The fact that a mistake costs exactly what a skip costs pushes you to try rather than wait, which is rare in this kind of game. The narrative labels add an analyst's pleasure: you see a film unfold sentence by sentence, from its setting to its crux, and the click often happens a line before you admit it.

The feedback is matter-of-fact, not flashy. The top card shows the current tier out of five and the number of points it awards, the 5-4-3-2-1 strip highlights the current clue, and your failed guesses remain displayed struck through in red, aligned with the clue that saw them go by. Important point: a wrong answer costs exactly what a skip costs, one notch. Each clue also carries its statistic on the share of today's players who had already solved the puzzle at that stage, which provides a live difficulty thermometer.

• A mistake costs the same notch as a skip. If you have a plausible title, try it: at equal cost, a guess gives you a chance to finish, a skip gives none.
• The narrative labels are clues in themselves. Knowing you've moved from exposition to conflict tells you the next sentence will be about the film's crux, not its setting.
• The player-share line under the clue serves as a barometer: when it jumps sharply from one tier to the next, that clue is the pivot of the day.
• Streak freezes are earned by playing, one every fourteen puzzles completed, plus tier bonuses. Backing up your account by email grants one more, one time only.
