Shamshot

Shamshot presents three scenes each day and asks the same question every time: real or fake? The game gives its two definitions on the welcome screen and they are more specific than they first appear. A Snapshot is a photo or a video that is authentic, and the wording adds a qualification that matters, even if it is hard to believe. A Shamshot is a fake, either produced by AI or made with good old Photoshop. The scenes are therefore not all still images: some are videos that play on a timeline bar, and each arrives with a caption that asserts what it is supposed to show. A flag button "🇺🇸" is placed at the top of the page.

1. Watch the day's scene, replaying it if it's a video, which the site's motto encourages: watch twice.
2. Read the caption, which asserts the origin and context of the scene.
3. Decide with one of the two bottom buttons: Snapshot for authentic, Shamshot for fake.
4. Move on to the next scenes of the day.

Because the exercise has stopped being a parlor game. Shamshot puts generated images and old‑fashioned photomontage in the same bucket, adds videos and a caption that argues for authenticity, and its own rule reminds you that reality regularly produces scenes one would refuse to believe. Three opportunities per day to measure how wrong you can be.

The verdict is a binary choice, with no confidence scale or half measures: the two buttons Snapshot and Shamshot are mutually exclusive. The screen also carries a flag button and a "Share with the community". Nothing in the layout leans one way or the other; the scene occupies the center and the rest of the page is left black.

Three new scenes every day, announced as such on the home screen.

• The game itself warns that the authentic can be hard to believe. A scene's implausibility is therefore not proof of fakery, and relying on it is to fall into the trap the rule announces in advance.
• Fake does not mean generated by AI: the chosen definition also covers traditional photomontage.
• The caption is part of what is being judged. A precise, dated story makes a scene credible without proving anything about the scene itself.
