SongToSong

SongToSong applies the six degrees of separation to the world of features. The board displays two portraits, CURRENT and TARGET, and asks you to connect the first to the second by chaining collaborative tracks: each selected song sends you to the featured artist, who becomes the new starting point. Beneath the portraits, the line "CHAIN SO FAR" keeps count of the connections and the field prompts you to start by searching for a song, not a name. Two buttons frame the exercise, Go Back to undo the last link and Reset to start over. A lightbulb in the search bar opens the list of known collaborations of the current artist, with a quota of three hints per day. The home screen shows a countdown to the next challenge.

1. Read the two portraits at the top: CURRENT is the artist you're on, TARGET is the artist you need to reach.
2. Search in the field for a song that pairs the current artist with another artist, following the tutorial example (a title followed by a "feat.").
3. Confirm: the guest artist becomes the new current artist and the chain lengthens by one connection.
4. Repeat until you reach the target artist, keeping an eye on the connection counter.
5. If you hit a dead end, step back one link with Go Back, or start over with Reset.
6. If nothing comes to mind, tap the lightbulb in the search bar: it lists popular collaborations of the current artist, limited to three hints per day.

Because the map of features is a map of the world. Picture two artists separated by an ocean of genres, and a guest verse is enough to make them neighbors. SongToSong gives that intuition the shape of a game, and you come away with a slightly more precise geography of the record than when you started.

No colors, no grid: the feedback is the chain lengthening before your eyes and the connection counter rising. The game doesn't stop you after X attempts; it counts steps. The page explicitly encourages solving in as few steps as possible, and the local save stores won games in an eight-slot distribution, which gives an idea of the length of chains taken into account. The local log also retains played games, wins, the current streak and best streak, as well as the state of the day's chain, allowing you to resume a started game.

• The field searches for songs, not artists. The tutorial example makes this clear: type a title with a featuring, and it's the song that moves you from one artist to another.
• The shortest path rarely goes through the biggest star. A very collaborative artist, even if less known, often opens more doors than a headliner who invites no one.
• Three hints per day, no more: save them for an artist whose collaborations you don't know at all, rather than using them to confirm an intuition you can test for free.
• Go Back removes a link without breaking everything. Before pressing Reset, back up one or two links to try a different branch.
