Daily Audit

Daily Audit is a timed test dressed up as a dystopian administrative procedure. The LastControl site, a browser-based strategy game, administers a cognitive audit to every candidate before opening a terminal to them: 60 seconds, 9 items, five announced families: digital, pattern, memory, sequence and field. The sequence is the same for all operators of the day and resets at midnight UTC. Each question is preceded by an atmospheric line in italics that belongs to the fiction rather than the prompt, and the footer reminds that this is all a game, with no medical or psychological value.

1. Click Begin assessment: the timer starts at 60 seconds.
2. Read the item, announced at the top by its position out of nine and by its family, beneath an atmospheric line.
3. Click one of the four offered answers; the progress bar under the prompt advances by one step.

One minute, nine questions, and a staging that turns a speed test into a hiring-formality in a hostile universe. The presentation does all the work: the same series of items served without the fiction would have no tension.

The timer runs for the whole series, not item by item, and a thin bar under the prompt shows progress through the nine questions. At the end, the page announces in its fictional language that « The result is filed. The workers will be able to read it. »

• The italic line above each item is part of the fiction, not the prompt: read the question, not the scenery; time is too short to be distracted.
• Nine items in one minute leave very little margin: it's better to decide quickly and lose an item than to get stuck on one that resists.
