Metazooa

Metazooa is a daily web puzzle that asks you to identify "today's Animal" by submitting guesses. You have 20 guesses to find the Mystery Animal. Wrong guesses produce feedback by taxonomic rank (kingdom, phylum, class, order, etc.), so the more your guess shares with the answer, the more you learn about the Animal.

1. Open the Metazooa web page and start today's puzzle.
2. Submit a guess naming an animal.
3. Read the feedback: wrong guesses will narrow the answer by taxonomic rank (kingdom, phylum, class, order, etc.).
4. Use the taxonomic feedback to refine subsequent guesses and repeat until you find today's Animal or exhaust 20 guesses.
5. A new Mystery Animal is provided once per day.

Metazooa tests your knowledge of the animal family tree by giving taxonomic feedback on each guess, turning each incorrect attempt into a clue. It's a daily challenge that encourages learning about relationships between animals as you narrow down the Mystery Animal within 20 guesses.

When a guess is incorrect, the game narrows the possible answer by taxonomic rank (for example kingdom, phylum, class, order). The more taxonomic groups your guess has in common with the target Animal, the more you will learn about the correct Animal. The site gives one Mystery Animal per day and tracks remaining guesses (20 total).

Core play

The only format: a single daily puzzle where you make guesses to identify the day's Mystery Animal using taxonomic-rank feedback.

• Use guesses that will reveal different taxonomic ranks to learn broad or specific relationships, since feedback is provided by taxonomic rank.
• Keep in mind the feedback rewards shared taxonomic groups: guesses that share more taxa with the answer will give more informative feedback.
