What is Chain Link?
Chain Link, or CHN LNK, stacks a chain of words where each word forms a phrase with the one below it. You never guess a whole word: you click a letter, and if it appears in any of the words in the chain, all its occurrences light up green at once. Second constraint: vowels appear in red and remain locked until all the other letters have been found, which forces you to build the chain through its consonants. Five lives at the start, one lost per wrong letter, and a small bonus economy grafted on top.
How to play
- Click a letter on the on-screen keyboard. Vowels are locked at the start, so you must begin with consonants.
- Watch the chain light up: a present letter illuminates its tiles in all words at once, not just in the current word.
- Take the errors: each absent letter removes one life from the five you start with.
- Once all the other letters are found, the vowels unlock.
- Finish the chain: remaining lives convert into stars, up to five in a single day.
Why play Chain Link?
Guessing a letter across an entire chain rather than within a single word changes the whole calculation. A well-chosen consonant can light three words at once and give you a foothold in phrases you hadn’t examined yet, while the vowel lock forbids the shortcut of starting from the middle. Around this very dry core, the game has stacked a layer of bonuses (safety net, mystery letter, dynamites, star-for-life exchange) that makes you want to come back several days in a row rather than just once.
Reading the feedback
Feedback is immediate and global. Vowels typed on the keyboard trigger nothing while the locking rule holds; a correct consonant lights its tiles in green across the chain, and each wrong letter removes a dot from the life bar. The rest of the board keeps the day counters: remaining lives, stars earned, dynamites available, and a summary screen with games played, win percentage, current streak and star distribution.
Modes
- Mode normal
- The chain of the day, numbered, five lives, no timer.
- Mode chronométré
- Activatable only at the start of the game. One minute is allowed to find a correct letter, otherwise a life is lost. The game increases the rewards there: three dynamites for a perfect run, and an extra star for a timed mode completed without dynamite.
- Chaînes précédentes
- A “PLAY PAST CHAINS” link appears on the page.
Tips & strategy
- A letter lights its occurrences across the whole chain, not just in one word. Very common consonants therefore yield several tiles per click, which is not the case in a game solved word by word.
- The vowel lock is as much an indicator as a constraint: as long as they are red, there is at least one consonant left to find somewhere in the chain.
- The mystery letter of the day only pays off if you find it on the next guess. It is not set aside for later.
- A perfect run requires zero errors and zero dynamites. Pulling a dynamite out of convenience closes the day’s bonus, even if the chain is later perfect.
- The safety net is obtained after four consecutive days and disappears as soon as it has absorbed an error, or as soon as a day is skipped. It does not stack.
Popular questions
How many lives in Chain Link?
Five, represented by dots on the board. Each wrong letter costs one. When on the last one, the game offers once per day to exchange two stars in reserve for an extra life.
Why are vowels locked?
It’s the game’s central rule: they remain displayed in red and unusable until all the other letters of the chain have been identified. The chain is therefore built by its consonants.
What are dynamites for?
A dynamite removes three invalid keys at random, that is letters still active on the keyboard but absent from all remaining words. They are obtained via the mystery letter, perfect runs, streak milestones and the monthly leaderboard podium.
How do you earn stars?
By finishing the chain: unused lives convert into stars, up to five per day. A timed mode completed without dynamite adds one.
