Lingo

Lingo bursts five famous expressions into twenty isolated words, mixed into a grid of four columns by five rows. Each turn consists of selecting four words and submitting; the game responds with colors. Eight turns to recompose the five expressions.

1. Scan the twenty words in the grid and the five 0/4 markers aligned above, one for each expression to be reassembled.
2. Select exactly four words in the grid.
3. Submit with Submit, or start over with Deselect All.
4. Read the colors returned after submitting, then play again; Shuffle reorders the grid if the layout is inconvenient.

The material consists of idioms and proverbs rather than simple categories, and the reasoning becomes twofold: a bit of color logic and a lot of ear for turns of phrase.

After a submission, a bar of four markers appears under the grid, one per selected word, and no written legend anywhere on the page explains what each color means. The five top markers go from 0/4 to 1/4, 2/4, and so on, each in its color, which continuously indicates how many words of each expression have already been identified. A timer runs, and the GUESS counter advances by one with each submission.

A daily, numbered phrase puzzle with an advertised duration of about four minutes and a shareable result.

• The x/4 markers are the real roadmap: they show which expressions are nearly finished and which still have no words placed, information you don't get from looking at the grid alone.
• The game keeps a streak of consecutive days, with a best-streak counter and a reserve of streak freezes: regularity has its own value there, independent of the score on a single grid.
