HeatMapQuest

HeatMapQuest reverses the usual way of reading a map: instead of giving you a statistic and asking where it is strong, it puts a globe in front of you and asks you to name the statistic hidden behind what it displays. The game opens on a full-page 3D globe set against a starry background and ringed by a red halo, and its very first instruction is to rotate it: reading is done by manipulating. The daily puzzle consists of four rounds, and a weekly mode with five lives puts the same skill under pressure.

1. From the home screen, choose "Daily puzzle".
2. The globe appears with its opening prompt, "TRY TO ROTATE THE GLOBE": rotate it rather than stick to the hemisphere shown.
3. Name the hidden statistic that the menu label announces: "Guess the hidden statistic on the globe".
4. Complete the four rounds of the day.

For the very particular pleasure of reading a statistic in reverse: the globe is placed in front of you, and it's up to you to say what it measures. The daily puzzle consists of four rounds and the weekly mode puts the same skill under pressure, with five lives.

The Weekly Survival mode removes one life for each mistake from the five you start with, and the home screen displays a Leaderboard as well as Leagues.

Daily puzzle

Four rounds per day, to be guessed on the globe. The menu label announces "Guess the hidden statistic on the globe, in 4 rounds every day".

Weekly Survival

A single attempt per week, reset on Wednesdays. You start with five lives and each mistake costs one; the game lasts as long as you hold out.

• The game starts by asking you to rotate the globe: so don't judge it by the single hemisphere shown at first.
• Weekly Survival can't be retried before the following Wednesday: save it for a time when you're focused rather than burning it on the fly.
