States

States is an American geography quiz played with the mouse on an unlabeled map. The game announces a target ("Find: …") and you must locate it on the map, with two-click validation: the first click highlights the region in purple, the second confirms. The target can be a state, a major city, or a county, which makes the game shift from a general-knowledge exercise to a precision challenge depending on the chosen set. A banner shows live score, streak, timer, and success rate.

1. Start a game and read the target shown at the top of the screen, with the progress counter (0/5 in the observed game).
2. First click on the targeted region: it lights up purple; nothing is confirmed yet.
3. Second click in the same place, or click the ✓ button, to confirm your answer.
4. As long as you haven't confirmed, click elsewhere to change your selection.
5. Use the mouse wheel to zoom and drag to move the map; a reset button returns the view to the default.

Clicking a shape is more honest than typing a name: you can’t half-guess. You either know where it is or you don’t. And the scale of content is rare, since you go from 52 entities for the states to over three thousand for the counties, with the same two-click mechanic. The counties set is the kind of challenge you think is trivial until you try it.

Confirmation is final: your answer is submitted immediately and the game tells you whether it is correct. The banner at the bottom of the screen keeps live counters (a score, a streak, a running timer and a percentage accuracy), while the x / y progress advances at the top.

• The two-click confirmation is a safety net, not a formality. A first click on the wrong region doesn’t count yet: use it to check what you’re targeting before you confirm.
• The timer runs while you manipulate the map. Zooming once on the dense East Coast area costs less than zooming in and out for every target.
• The counties set isn’t played like the states set: county names repeat across states, so the first question to ask is which state, not which county.
