Tastedle

A photo of a dish lands on the board and you name the country it comes from. Tastedle is built for cooks rather than map people: four clue buttons hand you the main ingredients, the cooking method, the flavour and style, and when the dish is eaten, and every one you open shaves points off the pot. Landing on a neighbour, or even just the right continent, still banks something.

1. Look at the photo of the day's dish. That part is free.
2. If nothing clicks, buy a clue. Main ingredients, cooking method and flavour and style cost 300 points each, when it's eaten costs 200.
3. Type a country and submit. Six guesses is the whole allowance.
4. Keep going after a miss. The first wrong guess uncovers the continent and the second uncovers the sub-region, so the board keeps opening up.

Plenty of guess-the-country games are geography quizzes wearing an apron. Tastedle actually rewards knowing food, because its clue stack reads like a recipe card: ingredients, method, flavour, when it is eaten. You can work from a curing technique and a fermented base toward a region without ever picturing a map, and the region-aware scoring means that kind of reasoning pays even when the exact country escapes you. Dish photos and facts come from Wikimedia Commons and Wikipedia under CC BY-SA, which is why the plates look like real dinners rather than stock photography.

Each dish starts at 5,000 points before you touch anything, minus whatever clues you unlock. When the round ends you keep a share of what is left based on your best guess: the exact country 100%, the same sub-region 50%, the right continent 20%, and nothing outside it. Misses pay you back in information instead, with the continent revealed after one and the sub-region after two.

Higher or Lower

• Squeeze the photo before you spend anything. Sauce colour, the shape of the pan, the garnish and the crockery are the only clues nobody charges you for.
• A wild guess is cheaper than a clue. Missing once reveals the continent and missing twice reveals the sub-region, while the ingredients button alone costs 300 points.
• If you can only place the region, guess anyway. Half the pot for a neighbouring country beats finishing the round with unused guesses.
