Paintiquity

Paintiquity doesn't show a single painting but an entire gallery, a mosaic of works hung together, and asks a single question: what year are they all from? The welcome tutorial presents it in two stages: study the gallery, open a canvas to look at it closely, then state the year they share. The slider covers 1200 to 2020, flanked by a minus button and a plus button on either side of the numeric field, and the banner keeps score, round out of five on the left and points on the right.

1. Browse the mosaic and open the works that appeal to you: the tutorial explicitly instructs enlarging one to examine it.
2. Set the common year on the slider, from 1200 to 2020, and refine it with the minus and plus buttons flanking the numeric field.
3. Confirm with Submit year, then move to the next gallery. There are five.

Dating a single painting is a bet on an artist. Dating a gallery is a bet on an era: the works correct one another, a hand you can't place is framed by its neighbors, and the mosaic becomes collective reasoning rather than a stroke of luck.

The banner always displays the current round out of five, a bar of five dots and a points counter, and the day's game is tracked in the browser by a session identifier specific to the edition.

Daily game

Five galleries in a row, under a daily session identifier, playable as a guest.

• All the canvases in the mosaic share the same year: look for the one that can be dated most reliably, a distinctive style or a recognizable technique, and use it as an anchor for the rest of the gallery.
• The slider covers eight centuries end to end. Use it to land in the right decade, then the minus and plus buttons to adjust, otherwise you lose the precision the numeric field gives you.
• Opening a work full-size is part of the rules, not a convenience: the tutorial places this action in step 1 of 2, even before touching the year.
