What is Tally?
Tally places a target in the center of the screen, an orange bubble labeled MAKE with its number, and four blue balls arranged in a ring around a shuffle button. Under the target, an instruction like "find 2 ways to reach" states how many different ways must be found, and two bubbles at the top right act as checkboxes for those finds. Between them are an equation bar and four operators: plus, minus, times, divided. The top banner shows a purse with coins and gems; the Hint button has its price written on it. At the bottom are five tabs: Play, Map, Daily, Shop, Stats, and a fox sitting in the corner that is the currently equipped companion. The game presents itself as an all-ages number puzzle where you collect companions.
How to play
- Tap a number, then an operator, then a number. The help text specifies that multiplications and divisions take precedence over additions and subtractions.
- Let the equation reach the target: it locks itself the instant it equals the target; there is no submit button.
- Repeat with other combinations until you fill all the bubbles for the level. Additional ways found grant bonus coins.
- The Hint button has its price printed on the label, 25. The purse in the top banner shows two currencies, coins and gems, and the page does not say which one it consumes.
Why play Tally?
Mental arithmetic is rarely this low-anxiety. Tally doesn’t count mistakes, doesn’t run a visible timer and asks nothing more than to find multiple paths to the same number, which shifts the effort completely: the first solution comes quickly, it’s the second that forces you to look at the ring differently. The absence of a submit button helps a lot. You try things instead of submitting answers. And the coin economy, with its companion shop and its hint at a displayed price, gives a reason to hunt for one more way even when the level is already cleared.
Reading the feedback
There is nothing to submit: the help panel says the equation is recorded automatically as soon as it equals the target. However, Tally monitors syntax while you type: the bar displays a number followed by its partial result, and the message "Add an operator first" appears on the page, below the board, in a spot the "Add to Home Screen" banner can cover. The bubbles at the top right mark the ways already found; two buttons, Undo and Clear, complete the bar, duplicated by the shortcut line "⌫ undo · Esc clear".
Modes
- Play
- The level-by-level progression, numbered at the top of the board, each with its target and number of ways to find. A Map tab duplicates it in the bottom banner.
- Daily
- A dedicated tab, marked with a red dot in the bottom banner, whose local save is tracked by a last-visited date.
- Shop
- A tab in the bottom banner. The game otherwise presents itself as a puzzle where you collect companions, and one of them is shown permanently in a corner of the board.
Tips & strategy
- The button at the center of the ring reshuffles the numbers, and the keyboard shortcut is the S key. When the circular layout prevents seeing a combination, it’s the cheapest move on the board.
- The help reminds the order of operations: multiplications and divisions before additions and subtractions. The same sequence of keypresses therefore won’t give what you expect if you read it left to right.
- Don’t stop at the displayed quota: ways found beyond the requested number pay bonus coins.
- Everything can be played from the keyboard if you prefer: digits 1 to 5 for the tiles, the operators, Backspace to undo, Escape to clear, Enter to chain.
