Higher or Lower

The daily game of Higher or Lower sets the tone before you even play: the menu shows the day's number and date, the line “5 rounds · 5 questions each”, then the full list of the five rounds with their icons: Google searches, IMDB ratings, Spotify monthly listeners, country populations, celebrity net worths. Each round has its single, always comparative question: which of the two is searched more, rated higher, listened to more, more populated, richer. The board itself is a dark card placed in the middle of five vertical colored bands, with the logo’s diamond above, the header ROUND 1 OF 5 and a single Play! button to open the round.

1. Open the /daily page: the menu lists the day’s number and the five upcoming round themes.
2. Start the game with Play!.
3. The first round opens on an announcement card (round number, icon, theme and question) which you must confirm with Play! to enter the questions.
4. Answer the five questions in the round by selecting which of the two options wins on the announced criterion.
5. Move to the next round, then reach the Final Results screen once all five themes are completed.

Five themes announced in advance means five different ways to fail. A country’s population you either know or deduce. An artist’s monthly Spotify listeners, nobody knows: you play by instinct, you vaguely remember a number you read somewhere, and that’s exactly the kind of round where quiet certainty gets demolished. The game shifts you between registers every five questions, never letting you settle on a method.

The structure is fixed: the header ROUND x OF 5, a final screen titled Final Results, a score announced out of 25 according to the site description, and a consecutive-day counter that appears in the end-of-game messages.

Daily Game

One game per day, numbered and dated, made up of five themed rounds of five questions. The day’s menu also shows a link back to the site’s main menu.

• The menu lists the five themes before you start: you already know whether the day leans toward music, demographics or box office, and which round will require grit.
• Each round has its criterion written in plain text: “Spotify monthly listeners” is not “fame”, “population” is not “area”. It’s that phrase that decides, not your general impression of the two options.
• The opening card of the first round requires a click to proceed: nothing starts behind your back, you can read the theme and take a breath before tackling the five questions.
