What is Lineup?

Lineup never asks for a value, only an order. The board gives a labeled axis in plain text (arrange five cities from coldest to warmest by average annual temperature, for example) and five cards numbered 1 to 5, each flanked by an up arrow and a down arrow. You move them with your finger, your mouse, or those arrows, then lock them with a button that displays its own counter: Guess (1/5). Under the board, a three-level legend remains visible at all times: correct spot, one place off, two places or more. The rules panel adds the clarification that makes the game social: everyone receives the same puzzle each day, and each one carries its own number.

How to play

  1. Read the instruction at the top of the board: it names the ranking axis and its direction.
  2. Reorder the five cards by drag-and-drop or with the â–Č â–Œ arrows on each row.
  3. Lock your guess with the Guess button, which shows the current attempt out of five.
  4. Read the card-by-card color code: correct spot, one place off, two places or more.
  5. Adjust and try again up to five attempts, then share your emoji grid.

Why play Lineup?

Ordering five things looks like a school exercise until you realize you don't have any numbers in mind, only intuitions, and the order forces you to confront them. Two cities you'd call “rather cold” still have to be separated. And the three-level feedback is perfectly calibrated for that: it never gives you the answer, it only tells you how far off you were.

Reading the feedback

Three levels, no more: correct spot, one place off, two places or more. The legend is printed under the board and never disappears. The whole point is the granularity of the feedback, which tells you whether a card is one notch off or at the far end of the scale.

Modes

Daily puzzle
A single daily puzzle, five items to order, five attempts, identical for all players worldwide according to the rules panel. Icons at the top of the board open stats, achievements and settings.

Tips & strategy

  • The â–Č â–Œ arrows move a card exactly one rank: when you only have a “one place off” to correct, use that precise move rather than an imprecise drag that shifts the whole column.
  • Five attempts for five cards goes fast: lock the two extremes of the axis first, they are almost always the clearest, and leave the middle of the ranking for later tries.
  • The axis wording can be counterintuitive (« annual average » is not « summer feel »): reread the instruction before relying on your mental image of each item.

Popular questions

How many attempts do you get?

Five. The button shows Guess (1/5) and the rules panel confirms it.

Does everyone get the same grid?

Yes, the rules panel says it explicitly: the whole world receives the same puzzle each day. It carries a number and a date.

Do I need an account?

No login screen appears. Stats, achievements and settings are accessible from the icons at the top of the board.
