Metaflora

Metaflora is a daily identification game that gives you one Mystery Plant per day and asks you to figure out its identity in as few guesses as possible. Each wrong guess provides structured feedback by narrowing the mystery plant down by taxonomic ranks (kingdom, phylum, class, order, etc.), helping you learn how close each guess is to the answer.

1. Enter the garden on the Metaflora homepage.
2. Submit a plant name as a guess for today's Mystery Plant.
3. Receive feedback: wrong guesses narrow the answer by taxonomic rank (kingdom, phylum, class, order, etc.).
4. Repeat guessing until you identify the Mystery Plant or exhaust your 25 guesses.
5. Wait for a new daily Mystery Plant when the countdown ends.

Metaflora offers a compact daily puzzle that sharpens your knowledge of plant taxonomy while rewarding informed guesses. The taxonomic feedback helps you learn hierarchical relationships between plant groups as you narrow down the Mystery Plant over up to 25 tries.

When a guess is wrong, the game narrows the Mystery Plant by taxonomic rank so you can see how much of the classification your guess and the answer share. The site states that "the more your guess has in common with the answer, the more you will learn about the Mystery Plant." The interface also shows a countdown to the next daily puzzle.

Core play

• Some familiar vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, kale, Brussels sprouts, kohlrabi) appear under a single species entry (Brassica oleracea) in the game. They may show up as "cabbage."
• You receive at most 25 guesses per daily puzzle, so each guess should aim to narrow taxonomic ranks.
