Pokedle

Pokedle hides one Pokemon a day and asks you to name it. Each guess is lined up against the secret Pokemon attribute by attribute - its two type slots and its generation among them - and answered in colours and arrows rather than words.

1. From the front page pick Classic Daily for the shared puzzle, or Unlimited if you would rather practise.
2. Enter a Pokemon to open the round.
3. Read the colours and arrows on the row that drops in, then pick a Pokemon that tests whatever the row left ambiguous.

The columns are all recall - typing, generation, the rest of the attributes - with no letter pattern or word shape to fall back on. That makes it a game for people who can already place a creature by sight. It is also a poor fit for catch-up players: no account, no streak, no archive, so a missed day is gone and Unlimited is the only place the practice lives.

Green means that attribute matches the answer exactly and red means it does not. Yellow is reserved for types: the answer does have the type you named, just in its other slot. Ordered values answer with a triangle instead, pointing up when the answer's value is higher than your guess and down when it is lower.

• Spend the first guess buying information rather than trying to be right. A dual-type Pokemon tests both slots at once, and yellow only ever appears on a type.
• Treat the triangles as a bracket. An ordered value that comes back with an arrow tells you which side of your guess the answer sits on, which narrows the pool faster than a flat red ever does.
