Conexo

Sixteen words, four hidden groups of four. Conexo asks you to work out what the words have in common before you can sort them, and the overlap is the whole trick: a word that looks like it belongs with three others usually belongs with three different ones. A fresh set arrives every day, dated, and the calendar on the front page keeps the earlier ones open.

1. Open the day's board from the front page. The date sits above the Play button, and the calendar beside it holds the previous games.
2. Read all sixteen words before touching any of them. The groups are built so that several words fit more than one theme.
3. Pick the four you are surest about first. Starting from the group you can name is faster than starting from the words that look odd.

Grouping games live or die on how well the decoys are built, and Conexo builds them around words that genuinely belong to two sets. That turns the puzzle into a question of which reading the author meant rather than which words look alike, and it is why a board can collapse in one move once the right label lands. It comes from the same studio as Contexto, and the calendar means a good run does not have to stop at one board.

Feedback arrives one group at a time: you submit four words, and the board is complete once all four sets are sorted.

• Name the category before you pick the words. Conexo builds its traps around words that fit two themes, so a group you can label out loud is safer than four words that merely feel related.
• The obvious four are usually the decoy. If a set jumps out immediately, check whether one of them is doing double duty for a group you have not spotted yet.
