What is Don't Wordle?
Don't Wordle reverses the instruction: you must submit six valid five-letter words without ever landing on the hidden answer. The grid looks like the familiar one, six rows of five cells and a keyboard, but three counters change everything else. Guesses tracks the number of rows played, Undos displays five, and above all Valid Words Remaining announces how many words still match the clues revealed, at 14855 before the first move.
How to play
- Type a valid five-letter word and confirm with ENTER.
- Look at the colors that appear on the played row: they become binding, the game then refusing any word that contradicts them.
- Watch the Valid Words Remaining counter, which shows how many words remain compatible with what has been revealed.
- Step back with Undo, of which five uses are shown, or start over with Reset Daily.
Why play Don't Wordle?
The reversal is deeper than a mere gag: since each clue obtained reduces the space of allowed words, every move mechanically brings you closer to the trap. The Valid Words Remaining counter, at 14855 before the first move and already 240 after a single accepted word, turns the game into an exercise in avoidance, where the objective is to stay in the fog as long as possible.
Reading the feedback
Two mechanisms answer one another. The played tiles color themselves, gray and gold, as in a classic letters game. And the game flatly refuses any suggestion that doesn't fit the clues already obtained, with an explicit message: the word does not match the clues already revealed. A word so rejected does not consume a try: the Guesses counter remains unchanged.
Modes
- Daily Grid
- The daily game, which the Reset Daily button allows you to restart.
- New Practice
- A button labeled New Practice sits in the corner of the board, next to the title.
Tips & strategy
- Valid Words Remaining is the real dashboard of the game. The more it melts away, the riskier the next row becomes, since the field of still-authorized words closes in on the answer.
- A rejected word costs nothing: the Guesses counter doesn't move. You can therefore test the compatibility of an idea before committing.
- The five Undos are a resource in their own right: they are used less to correct a typo than to undo a move that has narrowed the list of remaining words too much.
Popular questions
Does a rejected word consume a try in Don't Wordle?
No. A proposal rejected for incompatibility with the clues leaves the Guesses counter unchanged.
Why is my word being rejected?
Because it contradicts the clues already revealed. The game states this in plain words above the grid and requires that each new guess respects the colors previously obtained.
How many words must you play?
Six. The site's banner sums it up: propose six valid five-letter words without accidentally entering the hidden answer.
