Fibble

Fibble has a three-word instruction displayed under the grid: "Beware the lies." The rest looks like a classic word game: nine rows of five tiles, a tinted keyboard, green, yellow and gray tiles, except the game itself warns you not to take its colors at face value. Two details finish setting it apart: a small flag is attached to the end of each row, dark as soon as it has been played, pale while it is empty, and the day's grid opens with a first word already entered and checked before you even touch the keyboard.

1. Read the row already filled at opening: it is given to you, with its colors.
2. Type a five-letter word and confirm with Enter.
3. Interpret the colors while keeping the game's warning about lies in mind.
4. Watch the three counters under the keyboard, which total the letters classified as green, yellow and gray, and continue within the limit of nine rows.

A word game that warns up front that it doesn't tell the whole truth completely changes the way you read a grid: each color becomes a hypothesis to verify rather than an established fact.

The tiles use green, yellow and gray, the keyboard is tinted in parallel, and a bar of three counters under the keyboard summarizes the state of the letters: how many greens, how many yellows, how many grays. The counts correspond exactly to the colored keys on the keyboard. Each played row also receives its dark flag.
