What is FoxiMax?
A hidden word, a full keyboard, and letters offered one by one. So far it's Hangman, except the punishment is reversed: each wrong letter doesn't eat away at a gallows, it adds an additional word to reveal. The board grows as you make mistakes, the game ends at the eighth error, and the score is read as the number of words reached, the lower, the better.
How to play
- Choose a letter on the keyboard displayed on the screen.
- If it's present, it is revealed in the boxes. Otherwise, an extra word is added to the board to be discovered.
- Reveal everything before the eighth error, keeping the board as short as possible since the number of words is what counts for the score.
Why play FoxiMax?
The reversal is clever. In a classic hangman, a mistake only brings you closer to the end. Here it gives you extra work, and strategy becomes a matter of economy: each risky letter is a letter that can lengthen the chore. The little fox at the top of the screen doesn't warn you.
Reading the feedback
Feedback is contained in the board itself: either boxes fill in, or a new row of empty boxes appears. The penalty is therefore immediately visible and cumulative, each mistake leaving extra work behind it rather than a simple warning.
Modes
- Daily
- The game of the day, selected by default in the dropdown menu at the top left, with the daily streak to maintain.
- Training
- A random draw of words, described by the rules panel as a free mode. A Share button lets you send a game to friends.
Tips & strategy
- An error here costs double: it brings you closer to the limit of eight and it lengthens the list of words to reveal, which is exactly what the score counts.
- The Training mode draws a random set of words, and it's also the one that can be shared.
