PIVOT

PIVOT is not a guessing game; it is a pathing game. The word to form is given, and the board, three rows of six letters, has a golden band of four squares in its center that serves as the finish. Pivot points are placed at the corners of the squares: activating one rotates the surrounding two-by-two block, moving four letters at once. Each rotation counts as a move, and the goal is to use as few as possible.

1. Identify the four-letter word to form and the golden band that marks the four target squares in the middle of the center row.
2. Activate a pivot point to rotate the two-by-two block around it; its four letters move together.
3. Chain rotations until the word is aligned in the golden band, bearing in mind that each rotation is counted as a move.

Knowing the answer and still not knowing how to get there. That’s a rare sensation in a word game. PIVOT recaptures the vertigo of sliding puzzles, where each move half-undoes the previous one, and the constraint of minimizing moves turns it into a routing problem much more than a vocabulary problem.

No per-letter validation color: the only color on the board is the golden band that marks the four target squares; everything else is black letters on a cream background. The score is the count of rotations, and the page also advertises a daily leaderboard, result sharing, and animated replays of the best solutions.

Daily puzzle

One grid per day, which the site says is identical for all players.

• Since the word is given up front, all the calculation is about the order of rotations: a pivot moves four letters at once, often including one you had just placed correctly.
• The golden band does not span the full width of the board; the edge columns serve as a garage to temporarily park an awkward letter.
• No move affects only the golden row: a two-by-two block always covers two rows, so every rotation swaps letters between the center and an edge.
