Quotedle

Quotedle shows the beginning of a famous quotation and hides its last five words. Below, a pool of uppercase words mixes the correct ones with decoys, around thirty entries, and you must place five of them in the correct order. The difference with a letter game is clear: the unit you manipulate is the word, not the character, so the typical mistake is not omitting a word but putting it in the wrong place. The page states that the quotation of the day is the same for all players worldwide.

1. Read the quotation excerpt shown at the top: the last five words are missing.
2. Pick five words from the pool, knowing it deliberately contains intruders intended to mislead.
3. Place them in order into the five empty slots, then submit with Guess; the Clear button empties the line before submission.
4. Read the three colors and correct your guesses, within a limit of six attempts.
5. Once the grid is complete, Share copies a results grid that omits the quotation into the clipboard.

Reconstructing the end of a quotation from a pool of words plays on both your memory and syntax at once. The format shifts the focus: you are not looking for letters, you are looking for an order, and yellow becomes the game’s richest color because it validates the word while denying its position. The decoys slipped into the pool are the other clever idea: they are chosen to sound right, and that is exactly what makes the first attempt so tempting and so unreliable.

Three colors, applied to the whole word and not to the letter. Green means: right word, right place. Yellow means: this word is part of the end of the quotation, but not where you placed it. Gray means: this word does not belong to the answer at all and comes from the decoy pool. The "Tries" counter tracks the six attempts at the bottom of the grid.

Daily puzzle

One quotation per day, identical for all players according to the page; statistics and streak are stored on the device.

• A yellow tile is a disguised piece of good news: it turns a vocabulary problem into an ordering problem, and all that remains is to swap positions.
• The pool contains decoys knowingly included by the game. A word that sounds right with the quotation is no proof at all until it turns green or yellow.
• Sentence syntax narrows possibilities faster than meaning: an ending of a quotation remains a grammatically complete sentence ending, which eliminates whole combinations.
• Statistics and streak are stored on the device: changing browsers or clearing data will reset the counter to zero.
