What is Rung?
Rung presents a ladder of five clues that all point to the same hidden answer, from the most enigmatic to the most obvious. Only the top rung is readable at the start; the other four remain grayed out under the labels CLUE 2 to CLUE 5. The game plays like a test of nerve: each rung you descend is worth fewer points, and the Guess button clearly shows the value of the current attempt.
How to play
- Read the open clue, whose value is shown in the pill to its left.
- If you know it, type the answer into the field and confirm with the Guess button, which displays the points at stake.
- If you hesitate, take Skip: the button itself announces the value of the next rung, and the following clue unlocks.
- Continue until you find the answer or reach the last rung; the day's game ends on a correct answer.
Why play Rung?
Rung charges you for certainty at the right moment: every rung you read devalues the answer, and the urge to wait for one more clue is exactly the trap the game sets.
Reading the feedback
The scoring is shown before you act: the rungs are worth 5, 4, 3, 2 then 1 point. A correct answer collects the points and closes the day. A wrong answer burns the clue and drops you two rungs, whereas a skip costs only one; that difference is what makes the whole game.
Modes
- Core play
- Rung presents a single daily puzzle: a five-rung ladder of clues that all point to the same hidden answer. Only the top rung is visible at the start; CLUE 2 to CLUE 5 remain locked. You read the open clue (its current point value is shown), type a guess and confirm with the Guess button, or press Skip to unlock the next clue. The rungs are worth 5, 4, 3, 2, then 1 point; a correct answer collects the displayed points and ends the day. A wrong guess burns the current clue and drops you two rungs, while Skip advances one rung and costs the next rung’s lower point value. Rung offers this single default daily puzzle and no alternate modes.
Tips & strategy
- Skipping costs half as much as getting it wrong: as long as a hypothesis isn't firm, waiting is mathematically cheaper than betting.
- The first rung is deliberately enigmatic; the game itself promises cryptic clues at the start and obvious ones at the end: read it like a riddle, not like a definition.
