What is Tusmo?

Tusmo calls itself the daily French word game, and the word of the day is the first thing on the page: six tries at one French word shared by every player, the first letter already on the board so every try must start with it, and the Motus colour code, red for a letter in the right place and yellow for a letter present but misplaced. Every try must be a dictionary word of the right length, and the on-screen keyboard colours its keys as you play. Around that core the site adds a free archive that replays past days as often as you like, a run of four daily words of six to nine letters, an unlimited mode, a members-only scored training, ranked duels against a stranger on the same word, a continuous public room racing three words at a time, private rooms shared by link, and rotating events such as Marathon, Speedrun, Boss Rush and tournaments. It plays in French and in English, free and without signing up.

How to play

  1. Open Mot du jour from the home menu. The first letter is already on the board, and the row length tells you how long the word is.
  2. Type a French word of that length starting with that letter, on the on-screen keyboard or your own. A try must be a dictionary word of the right length or it is refused.
  3. Read the colours after each try: red for a letter in the right place, yellow for a letter present but misplaced, no colour for a letter absent from the word.
  4. Follow the keyboard: its keys take the same colours as the game goes on, so you can see what has already been tested.
  5. Use the six tries to place every letter. A win keeps your daily streak going, and the streak lives in your browser until you create a free account.
  6. Come back for more: Suite du jour chains four daily words, Infini has no limit, and Archives replays any past day as often as you like.

Why play Tusmo?

Most daily word games give you the puzzle and nothing else. Tusmo gives you the puzzle and a place to stay: the archive means a missed day is playable, the duel means you can race a stranger on the same word, and the public room turns the grid into a three-word sprint against everyone online. It is for players who want more than one grid a day and do not mind leaderboards, seasons and cosmetics around their word game; purists who want a single quiet daily should look elsewhere. The daily takes a few minutes, needs no account, and a guest account created on first visit keeps your streak.

Reading the feedback

After each try every letter of the row is coloured by its position in the word: red for a letter in the right place, yellow for a letter present but misplaced, and no colour for a letter absent from the word. The keyboard keys take the same colours as the game goes on, so what has been tested is visible at a glance. A try that is not a dictionary word of the right length is refused. In the duel and the public room the same colours apply, with a two-minute countdown once an opponent has found the word and a skull when your tries run out on a word.

Modes

Mot du jour
One French word a day, six tries, the first letter given, shared by every player, and the mode that keeps your streak.
Suite du jour
Four daily words of six to nine letters chained in one run.
Infini
Unlimited words, played at your own pace.
Archives
Every past daily word, replayable free as often as you like.
Entraînement
Scored training that grades you try by try, reserved for Ko-fi members; a session lives for 24 hours.
Duel classé
A ranked duel against a stranger on the same word, six tries each; the winner needs strictly fewer tries, and once one player finds the word the other has two minutes.
Salon public
A continuous public room: each round chains three words with six tries each, the same for everyone, the fastest to clear all three ranks first, and a new departure leaves about every 90 seconds.
Entre amis
A private room you create and share by link.
Événements
Rotating events on top of the modes, such as Marathon and Speedrun on the clock, Boss Rush, a black-ball Bingo, a world chest, team events and tournaments, with leaderboards and rewards.

Tips & strategy

  • The archive is the reason to pick Tusmo over a game without one. Its own line invites you to replay past days as often as you like, so if you play in streaks rather than every morning, a week away costs you nothing here.
  • Suite du jour runs four daily words of six to nine letters back to back. Treat it as a harder version of the same day rather than four separate puzzles, because fatigue is the real difficulty.
  • In a ranked duel, finding the word is not enough: you must find it in strictly fewer tries than your opponent, and once one player finds it the other has two minutes to finish. Play the opening rows for information, not for a lucky hit.
  • In the public room a round chains three words with six tries each, and running out of tries on one word ends your race with a skull. A safe second word beats a bold one there.
  • Your streak lives only in the browser you play in until you create a free account, and the settings offer to restore a lost streak. Register before you switch devices.
  • Detailed statistics and the scored training are reserved for Ko-fi members from the Lettre tier, from 2 euros a month; the word of the day, the archive, the duels and the rooms are not.

Popular questions

How many attempts do I get?

Six, for one word a day shared by every player, and the same six per word in the duel and the public room.

Can I play a day I missed?

Yes, and for nothing. The Archives page reopens every past daily word and invites you to replay them as often as you like.

Do I need an account?

No. A guest account is created automatically on your first visit, with no email or password, so your games are kept. A free account with an email and password, or a Google or Discord login, backs your streak up across devices.

What do supporters get?

The site is free and free of intrusive ads; memberships on Ko-fi start at 2 euros a month and pay for the servers. From the Lettre tier they unlock detailed statistics and the scored training, plus cosmetics, larger rooms and coupons, the game's internal currency. The word of the day, the archive, the duels and the rooms stay free.

Is there an English version?

Yes. The same site runs in French and in English, and its terms describe it as a word game in both languages.

Which address should I use?

Use www.tusmo.xyz. The address without the www does not answer.
