What is Shrooms?
Shrooms is a daily browser logic puzzle where you plant two mushrooms in every row, column, and colored region of a forest grid. Mushrooms may not touch, not even diagonally; illegal placements turn red. Use grass marks to rule out squares. The game is logic-only and publishes a new puzzle each day at midnight Eastern.
How to play
- Tap a cell to cycle it: empty → grass → mushroom → empty.
- Place exactly two mushrooms in every row, every column, and every color region (dirt patch).
- Ensure no two mushrooms touch, including diagonally; violating mushrooms turn red.
- Use grass as a personal ‘no mushroom here’ mark to record eliminations.
- Use Check to report how many mushrooms are currently wrong and Hint to highlight one logical step.
Why play Shrooms?
Shrooms dresses the Star Battle logic in a friendly forest theme and delivers a fresh, logic-only puzzle each day. It’s playable in your browser with no account, encourages deductive reasoning rather than guessing, and scores solves with bonuses for difficulty, speed, and streaks.
Reading the feedback
Mushrooms that currently break a rule show as red (a poisonous mushroom). A safe mushroom shows a blue cap. The Check button reports how many mushrooms are wrong but not which ones. Solving the puzzle produces a score starting from 100 points, with bonuses for solving (+100), avoiding hints (+25), higher difficulty, streaks, and speed.
Modes
- Core play
- The only format is a single-player daily logic puzzle played in the browser. Boards can be played at different difficulties (Easy, Medium, Hard) and on different sizes (for example 8×8, 10×10, 12×12); difficulty affects scoring bonuses.
Tips & strategy
- When you place a mushroom, mark all eight surrounding squares with grass: the no-touch rule clears them immediately.
- Start where the board has the least freedom: tight pockets or narrow strips often force placements.
- Use counting arguments: rows and regions that share limited rows can force eliminations elsewhere.
- Remember any 2×2 block can hold at most one mushroom; use block spacing to deduce placements.
Popular questions
What counts as a solve?
Exactly two mushrooms in every row, every column, and every color region, with no two mushrooms touching (not even diagonally). Get all placements correct with no rule broken and the puzzle is solved.
Why did my mushroom turn red?
A red (poisonous) mushroom means it currently breaks a rule: there are more than two in its row, column, or region, or it’s touching another mushroom (including diagonally). A safe mushroom appears with a blue cap.
What does the Check button do?
Check tells you whether the board holds any errors. It reports how many mushrooms are wrong, but never which ones, so it nudges without spoiling the solution.
