Byrdle

Byrdle is a five-letter word game whose entire dictionary revolves around choral singing. The help panel warns that answers may include proper names, plurals and musical terms from other languages, which completely changes how you search. Six guesses, one new word each day at midnight, and a clock to replay past grids.

1. Type a valid five-letter word using the on-screen keyboard.
2. Submit with Enter: the tiles change color.
3. Repeat up to six times, then return after midnight for the next word.

Because it is a letter game that assumes a particular shelf of books: that of choir directors, choristers and people who know what a four-part score looks like. The section 'The history of Byrdle' acknowledges the difficulty and presents it as educational, and the historical grids let you review years of vocabulary with a single click on the clock.

Three colors, letter by letter: a letter in the correct spot, a letter that appears elsewhere, a letter that is absent. The help panel illustrates them with examples taken from the game’s own vocabulary, which also gives an idea of the kinds of words to aim for.

Historical Byrdles

The banner at the top of the screen is explicit: pressing the clock gives access to past grids.

• The vocabulary is narrow and specialized: composers, forms, notation terms. A first guess taken from that field yields more information than a common English word, even one rich in vowels.
• Proper names, plurals and foreign words are accepted as answers. Do not discard a candidate simply because it is not in a standard English dictionary.
• Local save preserves several settings (hard mode, dark theme, colorblind mode, display font): the game is configured before play.
