What is Undersung?
Undersung reverses the usual question: it’s not the game that makes you guess a song, it’s you who must produce one. A word is displayed each day in large italics, and you must name a song whose lyrics contain it. The scoring rewards obscurity: the less a song is listened to, the more it scores, and if the word also appears in the title, it is worth only half. It is therefore an exercise in sharp memory more than general knowledge: the obvious hit will always be the unprofitable answer. The site offers a selector FR, EN and ES, and the local save stores the day’s attempts under a key that combines the date and the chosen language.
How to play
- Choose your language at the top right: FR, EN or ES.
- Read the word of the day, displayed large in the center of the page.
- Type a title or an artist in the "Title or artist..." field and submit.
- Watch the line under the word, which shows the challenge number and the number of tries remaining.
- Catch up on a missed day by tapping one of the "Missed challenges" dots under the field.
Why play Undersung?
Because it’s a game that rewards what only you know. Where every other game asks you to find what everyone recognized, Undersung gives you points for the song nobody listens to. And the layout, a word in italics in the middle of the white, treats that small collector’s pride with an almost literary seriousness.
Reading the feedback
Feedback is a score, not a color: the rule shown at the top of the page says that a song’s value depends on its popularity, the reverse of the usual reflex, with a half penalty if the word is also in the title. Local storage, meanwhile, keeps three separate logs: daily results and attempts; a practice log with number of rounds, total points and best score accompanied by the title that produced it; and a timed log with a best score per language and a no-miss streak indicator. A player identifier is also stored there, without account creation.
Modes
- Daily Challenge
- The word of the day, numbered, with its remaining-tries counter.
- Practice
- A practice tab; local storage records the number of rounds, total points and best score.
- Time Attack
- A timed tab; local storage keeps a best score per language and a no-miss streak indicator.
- Leaderboard
- A ranking tab, on the same line as the other modes.
Tips & strategy
- The scoring punishes the obvious. The song that comes to mind first is also the most listened to, and therefore the least rewarding: look for the B-side before the summer chorus.
- Check the title before submitting: if the day’s word appears there, the song is worth only half its points, even if it is obscure.
- Scores are kept separate by language: the save stores attempts under a key that combines the date and the language, and keeps a separate best score for French, English and Spanish.
- Missed days don’t disappear immediately: five catch-up dots remain displayed under the field.
Popular questions
How many tries per day?
The total is not announced on the page. The line under the word shows the tries remaining, in the form "You have 2 tries left".
Does the word need to be in the song title?
No, it must be in the lyrics. If it also appears in the title, the song only earns half the points.
Why does a well-known song score less?
It’s the game’s central rule, displayed at the top of the page: the less a song is listened to, the more points it’s worth.
Can you make up a missed day?
Yes, five previous days are offered under the field, from "Yesterday" to the four preceding days.
