Expresso

Expresso doesn't hide a single word but an expression: several words to discover as a whole. You type sequences of letters and the game responds with a three-level color code, including one that classic letter games don't have: a letter can be flagged as present in the expression but not in the word where you typed it. The instructions illustrate this with a two-word expression, where a Y first entered in the first word turns out to belong to the second.

1. Open the day's game from the home screen, which shows the date and a Play button.
2. Type a sequence of letters corresponding to a word of the expression.
3. Read the colors: correctly placed, present but misplaced within that word, or present elsewhere in the expression.
4. Move letters from one word to another across attempts until you reconstruct the full expression.

Searching for an expression rather than a word changes the nature of the deduction: it's no longer just about placing a letter in the right spot, but about understanding which word it belongs to. A tiny nuance on paper that shifts the whole reasoning.

Three states, not two: correctly placed, present in this word but elsewhere, and present in the expression but in another word. The board uses green, yellow and purple tiles on a dark background.

Core play

A single default puzzle, the "day's game" accessible from the home screen. The instructions and examples all describe reconstructing that one multi-word expression.

• The third color state is the central tool: when a letter is reported as present in the expression without belonging to the word where you placed it, it's not its position you need to correct but its word.
• The examples in the instructions enter the expression without spaces: first count the letters available per word before trying to place an expression you have in mind.
