Phraisins

Phraisins replaces the letters of a sentence with typographic symbols (§, $, «, £, ¢), and gives you a riddle to decode it. The same symbol always stands for the same letter, so entering a character on the answer line fills all its occurrences throughout the sentence. A symbol such as § can turn up in several words of the same sentence. Everything is dressed with grapes, five berries aligned beneath the title that serve as the capital for the day's grid.

1. Read the coded sentence at the top of the frame, then the Clue line just below, which describes the meaning of the sentence, not its form.
2. Count the dashes on the Your answer : line; they give the word breaks and the length of each word before you even type.
3. Type letters using the on‑screen or physical keyboard; each identical symbol fills in everywhere in the sentence at once.
4. Confirm with ENTER when the whole sentence is filled. On the same line are aligned GIVE UP, HINT and ENTER.

The double lock is the game's charm: the cryptogram gives the structure, the clue gives the meaning, and neither is sufficient alone. You spend your time shuttling between a repeated symbol that hints a letter and a bit of wordplay that hints an expression.

There is no per-letter color coding here; the boxes stay almost bare, with only a single background tint used. Feedback is textual and numerical: after a failed attempt, the message Not quite right appears under the sentence, the remaining attempts go from 4 to 3, the grape counter from 5 to 4, and one symbol is replaced by its letter in the coded sentence. Nothing indicates which letters in your guess were correctly placed.

A single grid per day; the local save timestamps it and gives it a phrase number.

• The symbol that appears most often is your best bet: it slices the sentence by itself, since all its occurrences will fill at once.
• Read the dash line before the first letter; the length of each word aligns with the clue and rules out half of the possible expressions.
• Each failed attempt costs one of the day's five grapes, so it's better to reconstruct the whole sentence in your head before hitting ENTER.
