What is Rowdle?
Rowdle stacks five rows of five mixed letters, already colored before the first move. There is nothing to type or submit: you swap letters two by two until you reassemble the five words. The rule shown next to the board fits in one sentence; rows count, columns do not, which allows moving a letter anywhere within its row. The daily grid is numbered; the recorded grid bore number 147.
How to play
- Read the colors already present: the board is revealed as soon as you open it, before any swap.
- Slide a tile onto another to swap two letters (the panel refers to swiping between tiles).
- Recheck the colors after each swap and continue until the five rows are entirely green, watching the swap counter beneath the board.
Why play Rowdle?
There is no word to guess here; everything is on the table from the start: Rowdle turns the letter game into an arrangement problem where economy of moves is the whole point.
Reading the feedback
Three colors, explained in the legend: green for the right letter in the right place, yellow for a letter that does belong in that row but not in that position, gray for a letter that belongs to another row. A peculiarity of Rowdle: this state is visible permanently, without submission. At move zero, the recorded board was already fully colored, before the first swap.
Modes
- Daily grid
- The game opened by default, numbered and saved in the browser under an English namespace.
- Puzzles banner
- A banner of links under the rules offers mini, maxi, ???, es and pl next to the daily grid; the recorded play did not open any of these variants.
Tips & strategy
- A gray tile conveys twofold information: it not only indicates the letter is misplaced, but that it must leave the row.
- Since columns don't count, a swap between two rows is the only move that solves two problems at once.
- Colors are recalculated without validation, so each swap is read immediately instead of costing an attempt.
Popular questions
Should the columns form words as well?
No. The rule displayed says so explicitly: rows count and columns do not.
What does the objective of 15 moves mean?
It's a target printed under the swap counter, not a cap: nothing in the game indicates a forced end of the game beyond it.
