Word Hurdle

Word Hurdle plays the familiar colour-feedback grid at one letter wider. The board is six columns by six rows, the answer is a six-letter word, and the header keeps a plain counter, "You have 6/6 chances left", that ticks down with each submission. Every row takes six letters rather than the five most players have in their fingers. The site states outright that it is not associated with The New York Times.

1. Enter a six-letter word using the on-screen keyboard. The row will not submit until all six cells are filled.
2. Press ENTER and read the colours across the row.
3. Rebuild the next guess around the confirmed letters, remembering that six-letter words carry more repeated letters than five-letter ones.
4. Watch the chances counter above the grid; it names exactly how many rows remain.

One extra letter sounds like a small change and is not. Six-letter English is a much larger pool than five-letter English, so the openings players have memorised elsewhere stop being efficient and the middle of the grid gets genuinely hard. The same six guesses now have to cover more ground. It is the cleanest way to feel how much of your Wordle skill is pattern memory rather than deduction, and it plays in the same couple of minutes.

The standard three colours, read across a six-cell row: the right letter in the right place, the right letter in the wrong place, and a letter to abandon, with the on-screen keyboard tracking each verdict. The remaining-guess counter sits above the board in plain text rather than being implied by empty rows, so the budget is visible at all times.

• Retire your Wordle opener. A five-letter starter wastes a cell here; openings built for six, words carrying two vowels and a common ending like -ING or -TION fragments, return far more.
• Six-letter words repeat letters more often than five-letter ones, so a single yellow does not rule out a second copy of that letter elsewhere in the row.
• Suffixes are the shortcut: pinning the last two cells to a common ending collapses the field faster than chasing the first letter.
