What is Journeys?

Journeys (Guess The Football Player) is a daily identification game where you must correctly name a footballer from their career club history. The interface shows each club the player represented, their usual shirt number and primary position; shirt icons use traditional club colours. Player data is largely referenced from Transfermarkt and some retro or partial histories may appear.

How to play

  1. Each day a new game features a different footballer (retired or active).
  2. You are shown the clubs the player represented, the shirt number most associated with them, and their primary position.
  3. Enter the player's name using an English keyboard; English equivalents and common name variations are accepted (e.g., Ozil for Özil).
  4. You start with 100 points. Each incorrect guess deducts 10 points (maximum of 10 wrong guesses without hints).
  5. Reveal optional hints at a points cost: club debut date (10 points per club), a teammate at a club (15 points per club), or nationality (20 points).
  6. If your score drops to 15 points or less you cannot reveal further hints and must make a guess.

Why play Journeys?

Journeys offers a daily brain-teasing challenge for football fans: identify players from career club histories, earn graded shirt cards based on your score, and collect claimed shirts in a Locker Room. The game rewards knowledge of careers and club associations, and lets you compare performance via the site’s leaderboard.

Reading the feedback

Scoring begins at 100 points and is reduced by 10 for each incorrect guess; revealing hints also costs points. Your final score determines the shirt card grade awarded when you guess correctly: 100 = Platinum; 99-71 = Gold; 70-51 = Silver; 50 or less = Standard. After a correct guess you may claim one of the player's shirts to your Locker Room (this feature requires an account). If you fail to guess correctly you cannot claim the shirt.

Modes

Core play
The primary format: a daily puzzle showing a player's club history, shirt numbers, and position for you to identify. This is the main and regularly updated format described in the rules.
Throwback Mode
Occasionally the game uses a retro 'throwback' theme for players who primarily played in the 1960s, 1970s, or 1980s. This is described as a themed takeover for applicable players.

Tips & strategy

  • Use the English keyboard equivalents for foreign characters (e.g., Ozil for Özil).
  • Common name variations and nicknames may be accepted (e.g., Hernandez and Chicarito).
  • Think carefully before revealing hints: each hint subtracts points and reduces your final grade.
  • If your score is 15 points or less you cannot reveal further hints, so plan guesses accordingly.

Popular questions

Do I need an account to play?

No account is required to play the daily puzzles. However, claiming a player's shirt to your Locker Room requires an account, and the rules state creating an account is free and easy.

How is scoring calculated and what are the grade thresholds?

You start with 100 points. Each incorrect guess deducts 10 points. Hints cost points (debut: 10 per club; teammate: 15 per club; nationality: 20). Final score grades: 100 = Platinum; 99-71 = Gold; 70-51 = Silver; 50 or less = Standard.
