etyML condenses an etymology lesson into a sorting grid. Twelve words are laid out at random, and four bins await them: three hidden roots, indicated not by their Latin form but by their meaning, plus a bin labeled "IMPOSTORS." Each bin wants exactly three words. The impostors are the core of the game: they are words that could easily be mistaken for belonging to a family without actually descending from it, like the example in the manual where "salient" seems every bit a cousin of "salary" and "sauce" even though it comes from a root meaning to leap, not salt. Each grid carries a number.

1. Tap a word to select it; it then becomes darkly highlighted.
2. Tap the bin that corresponds to its supposed root, or the impostors bin.
3. Tap a word already placed to release it, or clear the grid with "Clear".
4. Fill the four bins with three words each, then validate with "Submit".

A sorting game where the useful information is not in the words' form but in their history, with an explicit red‑herring mechanism: three words per grid look exactly like what they are not. You come away with two or three roots in mind.

Each bin shows its fill plainly, as a 0/3 counter that rises as you place words, and the selected word darkens while you choose its destination. The game also provides a Statistics panel and a "Today's result" panel.

Core play

A single default puzzle: a daily 12‑word sorting grid with four bins (three hidden roots indicated by meaning, plus an "IMPOSTORS" bin). Each bin must hold exactly three words. Interaction is selection by tapping a word, tapping a bin to place it, tapping a placed word to release it, using "Clear" to reset, and "Submit" to validate when all bins read 3/3. The interface shows each bin's 0/3 counter, a "Hint 💡" facility (three hints allowed per grid), and Statistics/"Today's result" panels.

• The bin labels give the meaning, not the root: reduce each word to the idea it carries before sorting. Kinship is clearer by sense than by spelling.
• The impostors bin is the same size as the others: exactly three words. Any too-neat graphical resemblance is therefore a potential trap, and you already know there are three of them.
• The "Hint 💡" button places one word correctly for you, but you get only three per grid: save them for a trio where two families contest the same word.
